Highlights of our Israel and Jordon Trip (in no particular order):
What we learned from this experience
- Walking 80 K on the 65 K Jesus Trail;
- Fabulous meals at Yarok Az Eco Lodge, Arbel Guest House, Peggy and Hertzel's home, and with Ali in the dessert;
- The unique accommodation at Yarok Az;
- The garden at the Arbel Guesthouse;
- The descent down the cliff face at Mount Arbel;
- Experiencing the Old City of Jerusalem;
- Staying at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Sion convent in Jerusalem;
- Climbing the snake path at Masada before dawn to see the sunrise over Jordan and the Dead Sea;
- Hiking in Ein Gedi;
- Floating in the Dead Sea;
- Spending time with cousins Peggy and Hertzel and their son Roz and his wife Shay;
- Hiking in the dessert and looking for treasures with Peggy;
- Petra, especially climbing to the Monastery;
- Wadi Rum with our driver and nature/mountain guide/chef Ali; and
- Relearning that some of the best experiences are the ones you do not plan.
What we learned from this experience
- Mark all trail updates on your map;
- Never assume hikers in front of you are on the same trail;
- Closed for Shabbat really means closed for Shabbat.
