Day 16: October 27, Tel Aviv

View of Tel Aviv
A relaxing fun day to end our trip. Tel Aviv is an eclectic city with a European flair. A mix of tall modern hi rises, winding little side streets and markets. We walked out to the Mediterranean to start the day and headed down the promenade to Jaffa,  a 40 minute walk. Just outside of Jaffa we met people fishing from the promenade.

Jaffa is like an artist colony with many people selling their work from their studios. We spent several hours walking up and down the old narrow alleys, admiring lots of jewelry, clothing, pottery and paintings. After a quick bite to eat in a beautiful food stall market building, we walked back on the beach, through the surf to the street that leads to the Carmel Market.

The Carmel Market is mainly a food market with beautiful looking fruit, veg, spices, with some fish stalls. We then went back to the beach in the other direction and found the US embassy and a bar with an ocean view for our last beer in Israel. We watched the sun go down over the Mediterranean then covered a lot of ground looking for the perfect bistro for supper. We reluctantly picked an Italian restaurant, not sure it was the right choice for our last Israeli meal, but it turned out quite lovely. We have an early start to the airport in the morning and should be in Calgary by 11 pm tomorrow.
