Moshav Faran |
First we slept in, then had coffee on the patio, then breakfast, then a tour. We went to one of Hertzel and Peggy's pepper greenhouses where we each harvested a red pepper and ate them like apples. They were delicious!! Then to the water cisterns for a view of the Moshav.
Date harvest |
One highlight was a ride in a date picker with a crew of harvesters. They took us up to the top of the palm trees, then over the palm trees, then back down to the ground, where we left with a large bag of dates. If we don't eat them in the Jordanian desert we will bring them back to Canada. We learned that dates are individually picked by hand as fruit within each cluster ripens at different times (no wonder dates are so expensive).
After lunch, Peggy took us on a hike to look for fossils and see some archeological sites. Peggy has a real knack for identifying fossils. Later we were joined for supper by Roz and Shay.
We really are enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and the outdoors. Although it is about 30 C, it doesn't seem that hot, probably because the air is dry. Peggy and Hertzel have a wonderful patio with a fish pond and fountain, a lemon and clementine tree, and a large vegetable garden in a net house. Tomorrow we are going to tour in the area, hike a little, and then we are off to Eilat to start our tour in Jordan.
